St. Habakkuk the Prophet

The commemoration of Saint Habakkuk, the prophet, who in the face of wickedness and violence announced the Lord’s judgment of men, but also his mercy, saying, “But the just one shall live by his faith.”

Saint Andrew the Apostle

November 30

The feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle, who, born in Bethsaida, and being Simon Peter’s brother and with him a fisherman, and being the first of John the Baptist’s disciples to be called by the Lord Jesus alongside the Jordan River, followed him and also led his brother to him; after Pentecost he is said to have preached the Gospel in Achaia and to have been crucified in Patras.  The Church in Constantinople most especially venerates him as its patron.

Sts. Simon and Jude

The feast of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles, the first of whom was also called the Cananean or “the Zelot”; the other, also called Thaddeus, the son of Jacob, asked the Lord during the Last Supper about his manifestation, and the Lord replied:  “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word and my Father will love him and we will come to him and we will make our abode with him.”

St. Luke

October 18

The commemoration of Saint Luke, the Evangelist, who, it is said, born in Antioch to a pagan family and being a doctor by profession, and having been converted to the faith of Christ and made a most beloved companion of blessed Paul the Apostle, as a scribe of the meekness of Christ diligently put in order all that Jesus did and taught in his book of the Gospel, and also narrated the beginnings of the life of the Church up to Paul’s first stay in the City in the Acts of the Apostles.
